From March 1, 2026, foreigners will only be allowed to work or run a business in Georgia with a work activity permit, except for cases specifically excluded by law.
New Definition: A labour immigrant is a foreign national who does not have a permanent residence permit in Georgia and:
• is employed by a local employer;
• works remotely for a local employer;
• is self-employed or runs a business aimed at earning financial profit.
Work Activity Permit Requirement:
All foreigners planning to work or conduct business in Georgia must obtain a permit in advance:
• For employees — authorizes work with a specific employer;
• For self-employed persons — specifies the profession and field of activity.
After Obtaining the Permit:
• If not in Georgia, apply for a D1 immigration visa within 30 days;
